Recently the Supreme Court banned cars with diesel engine capacity of 2 liters and more in Delhi.  Mahindra had already told due to this ban up to 2 percent of the sales been affected.  So again reach the same sales figure, Mahindra planned to release the Scorpio and XUV 500 models with 1.99 liter diesel engine soon. Accordingly, Mahindra now launched the Scorpio and XUV 500 models with 1.99 liter diesel engine only in Delhi.

Mahindra XUV 500 model is available at starting Delhi Show Room price of Rs .11.58 lakh and Scorpio Model is available at starting price of  Rs .9.67 lakh. This 1.99-liter engine was down sized engine of currently available 2.2-liter mHawk engine. It has a capacity of 1997 cc. The new 1.99-litre powerplant delivers 120bhp of power output and 280Nm of peak torque in the Scorpio and has been tuned to deliver 140bhp of power and 320Nm of torque in the XUV500. Mahindra said the same performence of 2.2 liter engine will be available in this too.

The 1.99-liter engine is available in two-wheel-drive system only. Mahindra is expected to focus more on the gasoline engine in future.
