Datsun Redigo, Hyundai Santro, Maruti Suzuki WagonR And Ertiga Gets Low Star Rating In Global NCAP Crash Test

Global NCAP releases an update to its #SaferCarsForIndia campaign with four  new crash test results yesterday. Four cars were tested: the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki WagonR, Hyundai Santro, and the Datsun redi-GO. Global NCAP crash tests are conducted at 64kmph and in a controlled environment.

Datsun Redigo:
Datsun offers only a driver-side airbag as standard across all the variants of the redi-GO. So, the Redi-GO’s base variant (with driver airbag) was used for the Global NCAP crash test. It received 1-star rating for adult occupant protection and two stars for child occupant protection. The Redi-GO's bodyshell and the footwell have been deemed as unstable.

Hyundai Santro:
Hyundai Santro’s base variant gets only a driver airbag as standard. So, the Santro base variant crash tested by the Global NCAP. It achieved a two-star safety rating for adult occupant protection as well as child occupant protection. The bodyshell was rated as unstable and it was not capable of withstanding further loadings. Footwell area was rated as unstable.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR :
Maruti Suzuki WagonR only offers a driver airbag as standard. So, the WagonR base variant crash tested by the Global NCAP. It achieved a two-star safety rating for adult occupant protection as well as child occupant protection as like its rival Hyundai Santro. The bodyshell was rated as unstable and it was not capable of withstanding further loadings. Footwell area was rated as unstable.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga:
Maruti Ertiga gets dual front airbags as standard along with ABS, rear parking sensors and ISOFIX mounts. So, dual airbag variant of Maruti Ertiga was tested by the Global NCAP. It achieved a three-star safety rating for adult occupant protection as well as child occupant protection. The bodyshell was rated as unstable and it was not capable of withstanding further loadings. Footwell area was rated as unstable. The car offers standard Seat Belt Reminder (SBR) for driver and passenger. Passenger pretensioner failed to work properly during the test.
